California, you can only regret this.  Don’t don’t don’t
latimes:

Thousands of students and activists marched through Sacramento’s streets and rallied outside the state Capitol on Monday to protest cuts to California’s colleges and universities.
“They say cut back, we say fight back!” the students chanted while waving signs saying “fund education, not war” and “cuts in education never heal.”
The plaza on the west side of the Capitol was teeming with protesters during the rally, which was billed as a chance to “occupy the Capitol.” Outside the building, student leaders and top Democrats who voted to slash higher education budgets last year addressed the crowd.

Butterfly redux

1. Coffee at Shilla Hotel.  Fancy bad coffee.

2. Pasta dinner date with my boss wherein I asked her why she had not remarried and she answered that she does not need a man.

3. The Artist.  Again.  Still good, but I cannot watch it anymore.

3. A fairly bad Hongdae concert that was made exciting by wearing dark purple lipstick.

4. Protest at the Chinese Embassy in Seoul.  Reading a letter and being nervous about it.

5. Six-course dinner party.  Wow.  Grand piano.  Views of Namsan Tower.  Wine.

6. Running (huffing) up Namsan Tower.  Perfect way to start Sunday morning.

7. Orange ranunculus.

8. The food market at Shinsegae Department Store.  Drool.

9. Getting driven home by a boy.

10. Reading in bed.

My sister took this photo of me last summer before I moved apartments. There I am sitting in that uncomfortable black chair and reviewing Strunk and White’s The Elements of Style.

I still find it so unnatural and weird that strawberries are harvested in winter in Korea, but I took the opportunity to make this strawberry cake.

Today I met my talented friend Mipa from Alien’s Day Out for lunch in Apgujeong.  Whenever I see her, I’m always amazed how humble she is.  She has a super popular blog, a thriving online vegan bakery, and an Etsy shop for her drawings, yet I always have to push her for information about her latest accomplishments.  I guess that’s what makes her so loveable.
Anyway, today she gave me one of her 2012 calendars, which completely made my day.  Now the only trouble is making space for it on my desk, which looks as if a box in the attic threw up its candles, macadamia nuts, lipsticks, books, magazines, cameras, nail polish, red yarn, chocolates, mugs, scraps of paper and pens galore.

About

Blogging from my little corner of Seoul, Korea, where I'll be until next fall as a Fulbrighter. My stated research project concerns the experiences of young North Korean defectors in South Korea, but my personal goal is to eat my way through every type of street food. Also, I'd like to personally meet a couple that match-dresses. Say hi! ---Lilian lilee27 -- gmail
