Gyeongju retreat

My aunt and uncle built a gorgeous home in the Gyeongju countryside last year after my uncle had a stroke and decided to take it easy.  He didn’t want to be too far from his home city, Ulsan, so they picked a lovely spot 40 minutes away.  I had been meaning to visit them again all summer, but finally made it down there last week when I was fed up with my lack of productivity in Seoul.  There I am in my $5 skirt from GwangJang Market.

Within minutes of arriving, my aunt handed me a bowl and told me to go pick some cherry tomatoes for a snack.    I spent the afternoon finishing an essay with a cup of iced tea and tomatoesAnd then the sun was shining so warmly upon this rock that I laid down and took a nap.  When I woke up, my aunt had placed a blanket over me.  (Picture was taken later when the sun was going down.) After dinner, we took a walk up to the nearby Gyeongju National Park.  What a nice to way to digest our dinner, I thought, until my cousin had two servings of fried chicken delivered.

About

Blogging from my little corner of Seoul, Korea, where I'll be until next fall as a Fulbrighter. My stated research project concerns the experiences of young North Korean defectors in South Korea, but my personal goal is to eat my way through every type of street food. Also, I'd like to personally meet a couple that match-dresses. Say hi! ---Lilian lilee27 -- gmail
