Last time this year, I was planning a hiking trip to Seoraksan. Our first day there, we climbed up to this secret cave, oohed over the foliage, ate 파전 and went to a sauna. After our loong day of hiking, I passed out at 10 pm while Michael and Greg drank beer.
This year, I’m listening to Feist and Madeleine Peyroux and wishing I could sleep for more than 4 hours every night.
Last time this year, I felt no weirdness with Seoul. This year, despite having more close friends and having so many favorite places, I feel displaced. I’m itching for the familiarity of LA and OC and old friends and for the simple pleasures of France.
I think this is what you call me having a relationship with Seoul. It’s that point in the relationship where the discovery’s winding down and either real commitment begins or I give in to the restlessness and move countries.
