LA, LA
My first 6 days in LA have been perfect. Every minute I feel so happy and incredibly lucky. Like this morning when I ordered a cup of damn good coffee at Intelligentsia (no Americano crap), snagged the best seat in the patio, read today’s LA Times, people-watched, played with dogs, and chatted with their owners.
I forgot how beautiful people are in Los Angeles. Really good and different looking. I also forgot how much cleavage women like to show.
The weather was oh my jesus amazing today. Blue, blue skies and the sun just as friendly as it could be. An old English professor took me to lunch, as usual, at the UCLA Faculty Center, and he asked if I minded if we sit on the patio. DID I MIND. We had duck confit in the cool shade overlooking Hilgard and chatted about Hungarian literature, Bollywood, the 2-year anniversary of his open heart surgery, and writing.
People in America hold doors open for each other. My lord, how I missed that.
I went into Susiecakes in Brentwood and bought four cupcakes: Gingerbread latte, strawberry, peanut butter, and red velvet. I gifted two to my professor and devoured the strawberry the second I came home tonight.
The parking meter I pulled into in Westwood was already paid for for the next two hours, don’t you love when that happens?
By the time I went to meet my parents for 나는꼼수다, the sun had set, and I was stuck in traffic through Wilshire Corridor and Beverly Hills, but it was really all okay. Even the traffic can seem beautiful sometimes.
