Tomatoes
I love tomatoes. So when I saw a sizable bag of cherry tomatoes for only $2 in an old street market two days ago, I had to buy it. Of course! Only $2! Bargain of the week.

That night, as luck would have it, a friend dropped by during dinner time, and I had nothing to serve, no ingredients except onions, garlic, and a few wilting leaves left on my dying basil plant. What to serve?
Then I remembered, whew, I had these wonderful tomatoes and some linguine left from my last pasta fest. Disaster spared:

As we’ve gotten settled in, neighbor and I don’t have dinner quite so often anymore, but when we do, it’s always yummy and always a good time.
Previously: Neighborly dinner
Thank god I like my next-door neighbor. It’s so much more enjoyable to share meals sometimes - sometimes: when I’m not in my more lonesome moods - and it’s positively sweet how we pool ingredients, cook, and eat together. The meals are small and simple but satisfying!
Jenna and I were making brownies from a BBC Good Food recipe one night in London when she busted out this old-school scale to measure the butter.
Can you say L.O.V.E.?
The scene at dinner last night. The menu: melon with ham, a tomato and some lettuce picked from the garden, olive oil made by the grandparents of ST, my couchsurfing host, and a chunk of goat cheese. We split a bottle of wine and talked into the night. I am having what you would call a nice time away.
Bleu cheese burger and chimi fries. At the food truck partay in the OC Register parking lot yesterday. Not a bad deal for $7.
And for dessert?
Coconut pineapple cake, expertly baked by MP. Served with green tea. Eaten with love
Dinner tonight Chez JR.
Kimchi fried rice with egg on top. Tofu soup w/scallions and little shrimpies. And of course, this being a Korean meal — banchan (side dishes). I contributed the sparkling strawberry lemonade made with freshly picked lemons.
