Bleu cheese burger and chimi fries. At the food truck partay in the OC Register parking lot yesterday. Not a bad deal for $7.
There is seriously nothing — nothing — that can rival Korean street food. NOT EVEN the food truck revolution that is taking place in LA or Portland. It is just that good. You pull up to the cart, you ask for an order of fish cakes or spicy rice cakes or some kimbap wrapped in egg, you eat them all, and then sometimes if you’re in the mood you also order a bottle of soju with your friends and then you drink that all too and then you get up to go and a split second later you’re back in the streets with young and old people everywhere. And that is why I love Korean street food; it’s not constricted to yuppies or poor people or people who can keep track of their favorite food trucks on twitter. You don’t have to drive out to find one because one will find you, wherever you may be, and if there’s a line at one place, you simply go on to the next one.
